Your Questions About Musical Instruments Store

Donald asks…

Which musical instrument store in Merseyside has the largest selection of guitars and guitar accessories?

admin answers:

There is Dawsons, The Guitar Shop and Curly music all on the same street in liverpool – Ranelagh Street – so they might as well all be one shop!
There is also a shop in Runcorn called Frailers, they sell tons

Michael asks…

what stores sell musical instruments?

what are some more well known stores that sell Musical Instruments in the US? Besides Guitar Center and Sam Ash please.

Does Anyone Know An Online Musical Instrument Store in India?

I wanted on online musical instrument store such as Bharat Music House.com etc…..thats the only one i know..i wanted to buy a new guitar and wanted to browse through available models with their prices…Bharat Music House has delivery as well but its not neccessary for me…thanks…

Mary asks…

How much could I make working as a salesman in a musical instrument store?

admin answers:

Depends on the store and your specialty. The music stores around me hire people who have music degrees, so they make more than minimun wage, but not much more. Probably around $11/ hr. It’s better than working at the mall, but not enough to really get ahead…

Joseph asks…

How can I get a job at a musical instrument store?

admin answers:

I got mine by hanging around. I went in and asked so many questions to the repair guy that he kind of took me in and showed me how things worked with guitars and amps. Since i was already a drummer and knew a lot about drums they gave me the drum section when they lost their guy, plus i learned how to do setups and pickup swaps, etc….

Your Questions About Digital Piano

Richard asks…

Something wrong with the black key from my digital piano?

Well I just got my digital piano (Casio Privia) and one black key is broken aka no sound and can’t even press it.

I plan to return it in the future but I want to know anyone knows a way to fix it? Any keyboardist here?

admin answers:

If you can’t press it, there is something binding the key probably something underneath it. Not necessarily recommended, but the Privia is fairly lightweight, so you can pick up the instrument and shake it around a bit. If it’s a loose part, it will work free. I’d still get a replacement even if it does start working. Since it is possible that the same problem will occur again. Even worse is if it is a metal part and it shorts some of the electronics.

Almost certainly a small part that erroneously got in there during manufacturing.

… Best of luck.

Linda asks…

What is a good AND affordable digital piano?

I’m looking for a good AND affordable digital piano, but don’t know where to start. The only things that I know I really want are:

1) ability to plug into my laptop and record;
2) ability to layer music (ie. go back and add more overtop of what I’ve already recorded), and;
3) NO “tinny” sound – the more piano-like it sounds the better.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

admin answers:

The sames ones that get mentioned day after day after day

Yamaha P95
Casio PX130
Korg SP170
Kawai EP3

… Don’t know what you mean my “layering” since you would build the sequence on the laptop.

Betty asks…

what number do i use to tune my digital piano it lets me go from anywhere between -64 to 64?

i just got my williams overture 88 key digital piano and i was exicted. i assembled it and when i played it it was kinda funky. sooooooooo i read the manual about tuning and i can go from -64 up to 64 what number should i use to sound good i can not tell. also when do i press down on the sustain pedal? thanks do you guys also know how to keep the changed settings?

admin answers:

Tune it to “0″ – this is the correct pitch. You only need to change this pitch (plus or minus) if you are playing alongside another instrument which cannot be tuned (like a xylophone or pipe organ).

Use the sustain pedal when you are playing notes that sound nice together. Try pressing it, and playing notes from one chord, e.g. All Cs Es and Gs!

Joseph asks…

Do you think i should save up for a Nintendo 3DS or save up for a digital piano and alto Saxophone?

Im turning 19 yrs old tommorow! im saving my money wisely do you think i should get the sax and digital piano or get the 3DS? I use to play piano for 11 yrs and stop for 4 years so really like 7 yrs. What do you think will last more longer? i already have an acoustic piano.

admin answers:

Get the piano, trust me games are fun but they only last for so long, I just bought a game that Ive been wanting for a long time and barely play it. Id rather play guitar

Paul asks…

How do I repair the keys on my digital piano due to water spill?

Spilled some water on 3-4 keys on my Roland digital piano and now they don’t work. Is there a way I can fix this on my own?

admin answers:

In general repairing digital pianos is not worth it unless this is still very new and a very nice piano ($2000+). Usually the cost of repair will be more than a new instrument. You can open it up and look for broken or loose connections, if you’re good with electrical wiring and soldering iron you can reconnect the broken connections. If the previous sentence is gibberish to you then any attempt to repair will cause more harm than good.

Your Questions About Electronic Keyboard Piano

Mark asks…

Does this look like a reasonable keyboard piano?

I don’t really know what I’m looking for and I don’t know if this is a good deal? I just want a keyboard that I can self learn to play to my songs. I don’t need anything fancy. Does this look like a good keyboard? Honestly?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-61-Keys-Electronic-Keyboard-Piano_W0QQitemZ220355127668QQcmdZViewItemQQptZKeyboards_MIDI?hash=item334e306974

admin answers:

Yes it does.

Ruth asks…

What is the best affordable electronic keyboard to buy for a 15 year old who wants to learn to play piano?

admin answers:

Well i know pianos vary in price depending on their performance so dont look for a 50 dollar piano cuz you get what you pay for. Go to your local music store like sam ash and guitar center. Ask around and see what you can get for a good price. Some pianos have lights in the keys so you can learn songs.

Jenny asks…

How easy it to transit from piano to keyboard?

I have a electronic keyboard at home and there is no good keyboard teacher available so that is why I decided to learn piano. I just want to know whether I would be going to face any problem while transitioning from piano to keyboard?

admin answers:

Learning to play the piano (on a piano; acoustic, digital, or a really good keyboard with weighted keys) and then playing on an electronic keyboard is fine.

Learning to play on a regular keyboard and then playing piano is not so good, since you will have developed another technique with a lighter touch.

Taking “regular” piano lessons and practicing on a quality weighted keyboard or piano will give you all the basic skills needed to play other keyboard instruments as well. (But of course, each instrument is still slightly different in “touch”.)

Since you have searched for a keyboard teacher, it tells me you are interested in rock, pop or modern styles rather than classical. Make sure also to find a piano teacher that specializes in the styles that you like to play as well!

Keep on playing!

James asks…

What is the difference between piano and keyboard sheet music ? ?

A friend of mine is looking for sheet music for an electronic keyboard.

I have been lookng for somewhere to download some but i cant find anything specific for keyboard, , , lots for piano, but not keyboard !

What is the difference between the two types ? ?

admin answers:

OK, some people make wrong use a piano and a keyboard. Literally, a piano is an acoustic musical instrument with string, hammers and etc to produce sound via MECHANICAL actions. An electronic keyboard is an ELECTRONIC device that produces sound via electronic processes though chips, transistors and etc. But, when it comes to their functionality, they’re just THE SAME. They only differ on their physical composition. ALL sheet music played on piano can be play on keyboards.

David asks…

Can you learn the piano by first learning on an electronic keyboard?

I have a piano in my garage that I want to learn to play, but my house is small and it would be hard to find the time to learn while not bothering others. Can you learn the keyboard with head phones on then practice on the piano when nobodies home?

admin answers:

Absolutely.

Your Questions About Musical Instrument Crafts

Mark asks…

What IS this subculture???? Have you seen these kids?

I’ve seen these kids (typically 18-late 20′s looking) in every major city I’ve lived in. They typically hang out in touristy areas. WHAT ARE THEY? Is there anywhere on the web that talks about them??

Clothing style= Black and brown cotton/denim. Unidentifyable slogans crafted on, like with a paintbrush or sharpie. Torn off sleeves, ripped off cutoffs. Boots= always leather army boots. CROSS laced. No bright colors at all. No accessories except maybe shoelace necklaces. No nail polish or makeup.

Jewelry = NO SPIKES OR O-rings…..just the occasional nose ring or earrings. Always silver or iron looking. No gems. Sometimes a leather belt-like bracelet on one wrist.

Tattoos= Also minimal, often on the face. No words just tribal like decoration, blackwork. Look homemade.and are simple.

Hair style = Practically always home-done dreadlocks. Shaved undercuts. Artificial coloring or bleaching is rare and minimal. (like one odd highlight…)

Accessories= MOST COMMON= Camping-sized backpacks, sometimes even with musical instruments (violin, guitar, bongo). Sometimes the cases look expensive and sometimes they don’t.

PASTTIMES = Hanging out in public parks in a circle with mongrel dogs on rope-leashes. Rumor is that they travel the country on black-painted school busses or campers. Also a rumor that they fix up and squat in abandoned buildings.

PUBLIC INTERACTION = Hands out ‘zines” with titles like “FIX IT UP!” or “STOP ****ing and START A REVOLUTION!”. Sometimes even panhandle with signs that ask for specific items “NEED SHOELACES” or “NEED FLOUR”. I’ve never seen them ask for money specifically. They don’t give the “Panhandler’s Pitch” either None of that “dude I need 3 bucks for the bus and my mom’s sick blah blah blah..”

DIET/HYGENE = Most describe themselves as “FREEGAN” which means, yes, dumpster diving outside of supermarkets and bakeries. .Most are vegetarian or vegan also who eat like civilized human beings and keep gardens in vacant lots or even buy food with money from stores. They seem to know about soap+water, their clothes look dingy and their hair is wild but their faces and arms are clean-looking. Dispite ratty clothing and hair style, still have a nourished, healthy appearance, Some of the men even have well manicured facial hair like goatees…Dental care is same as any other population, varies with individual.

MUSIC = They carry their own instruments… Never seen with ipods or radios. They seem to just play whatever comes to mind, no identifyable style. Definitely not punk or rock of any kind in case you were wondering.

DRUGS = I don’t know…They don’t look strung out.

ANY IDEAS?
okay it looks like I answered my own question, there is a FREEGAN lifestyle it’s not just a diet thing.

Nevermind, I found out what they were, they’re called Freegans.

And yeah I put it into this catagory among others because I also thought they’d be just runaways and well statistically a significant number of runaways are GLBT. No offense.

im trying to sell a Bowflex for my dad and have no idea what catigory it should go under an I also don’t want to feel li8ke a complete idiot saying it’s a sporting good

admin answers:

I would place it under Health and Beauty since it is an exercise tool. But if you want to be safe go ahead and place it under, general for sale or even sporting goods. Just make sure to add a detailed description of the item so that people have as much info as possible. In addition, you have the option of including a keyword section at the bottom of your listing so that when one searches for an “exercise tool, bowflex,” for example it will come up right away. And if possible, make sure to include a picture or 4 max as those really help potential buyers. Hope this is helpful. Good luck with the listings!

Sandy asks…

Why can’t there be an all Canadian Symphony Orchestra?

And they write their own concertos from scratch and maybe even make their own musical instruments or enhance them, using Canadian volunteer workers.

With violins from Newfoundland and Labrador, violas from Nova Scotia, cello players from New Brunswick (bass players being cool punk kids from Toronto) This would be mostly Maritime string because they’d use fiddle tunes to impose into orchestral string music.

Then you would have accordians from Quebec and some keyboard and drums having solo parts in the concerto. (A French section of one of the orchestral movements.)

The Canadian brass would help out the brass section, but also we’d get BC artists and artisans from Vancouver to design new brass fugal horns to enhance the brass section using Pacific Northwest arts and craft.

For woodwinds, we will focus 100% on Prince Edward Island and develop the reeds from their co-operatives where they’ve been working together for 200 years. And the wood parts of the instruments will be manufactured by lumberjacks in Kapuskasing, Ontario.

And then we will have prairie singers from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

And the drums, oh yes the drumming, from Nunavut Inuit and then lastly, there will be vocal sound effects from Northwest Territory and special glacial sound effects from the Yukon with sounds of digging shovels for gold.

Why can’t this be created in Canada???
and you know, maybe it should be a youth orchestra. Get Canadian kids into classical music, instead of spending money on prisons for juveniles.
I’m not totally thrilled with Harper to be honest.
but I want it to be very very very Canadian where the trumpet valves get stuck in the middle of the song because the trumpet and trombone oil is made from maple syrup
Actually in the USA, there’s a summer camp for kids to play musical instruments and perform orchestra concerts and get to see famous people come and play on an outdoor stage for 8 weeks. I was a camper there as a kid.

IT’s called Interlochen Arts Camp in Northern Michigan. It is not far from where Macinac Island joins up with Ontario at Sault Ste Marie I believe. IT’s a great camp, kids come from all over the world. And it’s cabin life with lakes and a little bit of soil and mud.

And the camp’s infirmary is basically like Canada’s healthcare in a way. It’s free, you go and they give you what you need to feel better if you’re sick.

I have a plain digital camera (It’s Canon power shot SD790 IS DIGITAL ELPH)
ANYWAYS I’m taking an online photography class and I need to take pictures of my favorite things to do such as a picutre of me playing piano, reading, etc.
I have to take long shots, medium shots and close-ups.

In the assignment, it says:
“Tell the difference between short (macro:1inch-1foot), medium ( 3 feet-5 feet )and long shots (11feet-infinity). Shoot pictures from these different distances”. <- What is the meaning of these ??????
What do I do to use these setting in camera ??? I don't know anything about cameras…I just took them by pressing the bottom… Please explain to me in detail…

Thank You so much!! :D !!

admin answers:

For short you’re going to put your camera on macro mode (the little flower looking thing). This enables your camera to go really close up to your subject without going out of focus. Medium is just taking a picture of something that’s 3-5 feet away from you. And long shots is just taking a picture of something 11 or more feet away from you.

IS it my current computer that is slowing me down or my internet connection?

Is the computer i made online a good gaming computer?

Also the computer i made online have any things that arn’t necessary for games.

THANK YOU

admin answers:

Your current computer has too little of RAM to get anything done. For WoW to run properly on a computer, at least 500 megs of RAM is required, but I’d say one gig is recommended. You have a very excellent processor, but your amount of RAM is pitiable. You also have a very small amount of disc space compared to what is standard in most desktops, if that is what you have, or even laptops, but that shouldn’t necessarily effect your gameplay. I don’t really know what sort of graphics card is required for WoW, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be a very recent one, probably one from around 1998-2000. I could be wrong on that. Your internet connection has nothing to do with how well the game streams. I would suggest getting a desktop with at least three gigs of RAM and a similar processor.

Thomas asks…

Some thoughts on this short piece?

OK let’s. I guess I am never gonna improve if I don’t finally get the courage to ask for some feedback and get constructive criticism, so I’m gonna throw a little something to the wolves. This is a short story I did for university a few years back. It’s a Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? fan fiction I guess (I didn’t think in those terms back then, I had never heard of fan fictions). I’m gonna be completely honest and let you know I pick this one because it’s quite old and one of my early English language pieces so if you guys rip me to shreds, I can live with that by telling myself it was a long time ago and I barely knew English then (Yeah, that’s my story and I’ll stick to it! :-p). If it’s not too bad, maybe I can grow some b*lls and share later pieces. So just a really short piece:

Nostalgia

He dialled 666 and wondered if it was pure coincidence that the artistic mood was induced by this code. He found that in practice many different settings could lead to artistic mood. Like 307, imaginative optimism, or 567: hopefulness. He dialled 666 for convenience. It took a couple of minutes for the electrical impulses to be generated to his brain. He liked these minutes. The emptiness of his soul during these minutes made him feel free. Of course he could also dial 137: sense of freedom. But that seemed artificial to him.
The mood had been processed to his brain. He sat at his computer and typed away. A poem took shape. The problem with the Penfield mood organ was that you didn’t know if you could take credit for your own creation. Surely though, the Penfield didn’t create the words, only drew them out of him. He’d read an online lecture about 19th century writers. Some of them used drugs to write their now long lost poems. Nobody accused them of not being real writers. On his computer, he hit the keyboard like a piano’s. He told himself that writing was all about dying. Music was about life. A piano keyboard was the essence of life. Every man has his own fate. When others dialled 666, they were musicians, painters, sculptors, singers. He was a writer: death was his matter, but the piano idea allowed him to make life his matter too. 543: depression. That was another one that made him write. He had a whole library of dictionaries in his house, real ones: old books with pages of paper and ink all over them. He was stupidly sentimental about these. Nobody had real books anymore, only the Archives Museum where nobody ever really went. He called his library “the cemetery”. It was both holy and morbid. Strange he didn’t feel the same way about pens. He read once that the last pen factory closed only a dozen decades after the computer was invented. Of course at the beginning computers were too expensive and too large for everyday use. But after? When they got cheaper and could be slipped into one’s pocket, why did people keep using pens? He couldn’t imagine using one. Not even a digital one. It made no sound, it was too close to the paper. Ink would flow like blood. “But Anton, his publisher said, people love that shit. It’d promote your books.” Something to do with nostalgia.
The neighbours were yelling, distracting him. But he had finished his poem anyway. The yelling wouldn’t last long either. Soon, Rick would probably set Iran’s mood organ on 594: pleased acknowledgement of husband’s superior wisdom in all matters. “If I had a wife, Anton thought, I’d never mess with her Penfield.” He’d fall in love with a woman who could dial her own settings. Suppressing her critical sense didn’t feel right. But wasn’t that a consequence of the mood organ anyway?

At his publisher’s, he read his poem out loud. It felt familiar, like all those he’d ever written.
- What do you think is the artistic movement of our time? Anton suddenly asked.
- Neo-classicism, the publisher laughed. Some nostalgia for the past. Since books have disappeared, we’ve been searching a way to revive the old arts. Read that poem again.
- “A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.”

Ah thanks Lonnie, that’s something I can work with. I’ll have to track down the misspellings and punctuation mistakes. I also agree about the harsh rhythm, I was telling myself that when I re-read this piece today. It doesn’t flow as well as it could. But I do want to ask about the sentence fragments. I constantly fight my grammar check with those. I know how to write a full sentence. If I don’t, it’s because I don’t want to. I know I can abuse them sometimes. But isn’t it ever acceptable to use sentence fragments?
I think I’m going to make a list of questions like that sometimes because that’s not my only issue.

admin answers:

It is funny you should say that about the wolves. Mah ha ha! Let’s see…

Although the 666 thing as been made into a cliché since the late 70′s horror flicks, it is actually a number the predates revelations and to these Babylonians it was not a number related to evil. Also, scientists have been translating many biblical texts that use another mathematical phenomenon, the number 616 in its place. Did you know that?

But anyway, now on to your critique… Not including the poem at the end, out of your; about 56 sentences 14 of them start with the word ‘he’ perhaps giving him a name to alternate with could help this. It is not so bad, except for at the beginning.

There are six sentence fragments, three misspellings, four sets of quotes missing, and several punctuation mistakes. There are at least four contractions, but the style seems to support them. Then lastly, the writing flow is just a bit harsh.

So, besides these few little things, it is interesting and intriguing. I like the colorful use of the poem at the end and the originality and fresh feel of the piece. If it were the start of a book I feel like I would be inclined to read on.

Robert asks…

Am I spoiled? Cause I don’t think I am that spoiled. I’m 18 years old?

My parents have two houses but the second one we built is not super super fancy and is not a million dollar home. The reason for two houses is my dad work place was almost 3 hours from our house, I am homeschooled, and when my brother wanted to go to public school we didn’t want to go to our local school cause everyone is rich and are bad influences. Our houses , the first one. Its a 3 bedroom 3.5 bath with garage and its on the golf course, and we don’t play golf. The other house took 3 remodeling to become what it is now. 4 bedroom with 3 bath and my dads home theater which is his hobby. My dad is the only one who brings in the money.

A car for around $20,000- people are going to mad knowing I was bough a car but let me point out some things, My mom is super scared about safety, and wanted me to have big car against the semi trucks and stuff. She wouldn’t allow me to have small car and she has a prius and she considers it not substantial for long driving trips. She wants a tank, it had to be safe and it had to be a good brand car, Toyota, Subaru , or maybe Hyhundia .
We got a highlander 07 at 41,000 miles.
Let me also point out that when we started out looking I know this wasn’t my dream car, I knew this car has to get me though college and after college it needs to be able to get 200,000 miles
it had to less than 15,000mile per year. My brother was given a car and if he was giving this option he wanted the nicest sleekest design.

Things I have done for others-
donated 50 dollars to Hattie earth quakes
and 25 dollars to tornadoes disasters
and 25 to japan
$20 in chickens
share in a water buffalo, goat, cow- this is to heffier international where then send and train people to use an animal to help improve their lives.
So I might add some more details but I just need to know. I know it sounds like i am spoiled but I don’t act like it. A girls bragged about her house being bigger then our smaller house ,and i just let it go, I don’t like making waves either. So Yes Spoiled No? Slightly?

If you are able to have nice things, go you. It seems like you do donate some to charity. All I can say is that I hope it was your own money and not your parents. Spoiled is a lot about attitude. If you’re acting like a brat that thinks they are above others because of their financial status and never does anything to help someone else, then that person is spoiled. If your parents have taught you the value of a dollar, even while being able to afford nice things, then kudos to them and to you for having a good attitude.
