Your Questions About Digital Piano

Steven asks…

Where can I buy a replacement power Cord for a Yamaha Digital Piano?

I am looking for a replacement power cord for my Yamaha digital piano model number YDP-101s. The power cord numbers say hanai pc-234 on the other side it says 7a-125v below that it says 875w. Do you guys know where I could buy one? I really would like to start playing again. My sister’s puppy chewed the cord in half and when we tried to repair it the piano wouldn’t play right.

How much for a digital piano ?

I am thinking about learning how to play piano, should I go for a digital piano ? what is the minimum price ?

admin answers:

When learning to play the piano, you must buy one which has weighted keys and a good action.

One I found on Argos at £587.19 would be an ideal one to start:

Please note that when learning to play, it is a great commitment, however, the rewards are hugely satisfying when you have overcome the initial difficulties.

I would not recommend buying a keyboard which does not have weighted keys. Although these may be cheaper, they are not very good and once you have learned to play the basics, you will be able to tell the difference betweendigital a digitial piano and a keyboard.

Happy learning :)

Is there a Digital Piano that writes your song out in notes?

I have my own song, but i’m not completely sure how to write it out in notes yet. Is there a digital piano that not only lets you record your song but it writes it out in notes for you?

You will need a midi hookup from your piano to a computer and additional software, “Finale” as already recommended.

The software will ‘notate’ the music you play on the piano (via the midi connection). The notation will be note-accurate, but you must have full knowledge of notation, especially rhythm, to ‘tell’ the software what to do.

You must play your music and stay accurate with a metronome. There are other options, but they are more labor intensive.

Piano music is especially complex for the software to ‘guess’ the clearest and most
‘proper’ notation. If there is more than one note at a time, a melody and a bit of accompaniment in one staff which are normally made separately clear via beams, there will be numerous extra steps to make the software comply to what you want to see.

In addition, the learning curve for the software is a bit intense.

What do i need to do to connect my guitar / digital piano to cubase 4?

i have cubase LE 4 and i want to record my guitar and digital piano straight onto cubase, what cables etc do i need?

admin answers:

You need an Audio Interface box. This will take a USB lead out of your PC into the box which will usually offer you a range of inputs such as MIDI for your keyboard and jack socket for your guitar plus XLR for a microphone. I like Alesis gear. It’s cheap and well built.
