Richard asks…
?How do I use MACRO from my camera???
I have a plain digital camera (It’s Canon power shot SD790 IS DIGITAL ELPH)
ANYWAYS I’m taking an online photography class and I need to take pictures of my favorite things to do such as a picutre of me playing piano, reading, etc.
I have to take long shots, medium shots and close-ups.
In the assignment, it says:
“Tell the difference between short (macro:1inch-1foot), medium ( 3 feet-5 feet )and long shots (11feet-infinity). Shoot pictures from these different distances”. <- What is the meaning of these ??????
What do I do to use these setting in camera ??? I don't know anything about cameras…I just took them by pressing the bottom… Please explain to me in detail…
THANK YOU ![]()

For short you’re going to put your camera on macro mode (the little flower looking thing). This enables your camera to go really close up to your subject without going out of focus. Medium is just taking a picture of something that’s 3-5 feet away from you. And long shots is just taking a picture of something 11 or more feet away from you.

Your current computer has too little of RAM to get anything done. For WoW to run properly on a computer, at least 500 megs of RAM is required, but I’d say one gig is recommended. You have a very excellent processor, but your amount of RAM is pitiable. You also have a very small amount of disc space compared to what is standard in most desktops, if that is what you have, or even laptops, but that shouldn’t necessarily effect your gameplay. I don’t really know what sort of graphics card is required for WoW, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be a very recent one, probably one from around 1998-2000. I could be wrong on that. Your internet connection has nothing to do with how well the game streams. I would suggest getting a desktop with at least three gigs of RAM and a similar processor.

Thomas asks…
Some thoughts on this short piece?
OK let’s. I guess I am never gonna improve if I don’t finally get the courage to ask for some feedback and get constructive criticism, so I’m gonna throw a little something to the wolves. This is a short story I did for university a few years back. It’s a Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? fan fiction I guess (I didn’t think in those terms back then, I had never heard of fan fictions). I’m gonna be completely honest and let you know I pick this one because it’s quite old and one of my early English language pieces so if you guys rip me to shreds, I can live with that by telling myself it was a long time ago and I barely knew English then (Yeah, that’s my story and I’ll stick to it! :-p). If it’s not too bad, maybe I can grow some b*lls and share later pieces. So just a really short piece:
Nostalgia
He dialled 666 and wondered if it was pure coincidence that the artistic mood was induced by this code. He found that in practice many different settings could lead to artistic mood. Like 307, imaginative optimism, or 567: hopefulness. He dialled 666 for convenience. It took a couple of minutes for the electrical impulses to be generated to his brain. He liked these minutes. The emptiness of his soul during these minutes made him feel free. Of course he could also dial 137: sense of freedom. But that seemed artificial to him.
The mood had been processed to his brain. He sat at his computer and typed away. A poem took shape. The problem with the Penfield mood organ was that you didn’t know if you could take credit for your own creation. Surely though, the Penfield didn’t create the words, only drew them out of him. He’d read an online lecture about 19th century writers. Some of them used drugs to write their now long lost poems. Nobody accused them of not being real writers. On his computer, he hit the keyboard like a piano’s. He told himself that writing was all about dying. Music was about life. A piano keyboard was the essence of life. Every man has his own fate. When others dialled 666, they were musicians, painters, sculptors, singers. He was a writer: death was his matter, but the piano idea allowed him to make life his matter too. 543: depression. That was another one that made him write. He had a whole library of dictionaries in his house, real ones: old books with pages of paper and ink all over them. He was stupidly sentimental about these. Nobody had real books anymore, only the Archives Museum where nobody ever really went. He called his library “the cemetery”. It was both holy and morbid. Strange he didn’t feel the same way about pens. He read once that the last pen factory closed only a dozen decades after the computer was invented. Of course at the beginning computers were too expensive and too large for everyday use. But after? When they got cheaper and could be slipped into one’s pocket, why did people keep using pens? He couldn’t imagine using one. Not even a digital one. It made no sound, it was too close to the paper. Ink would flow like blood. “But Anton, his publisher said, people love that shit. It’d promote your books.” Something to do with nostalgia.
The neighbours were yelling, distracting him. But he had finished his poem anyway. The yelling wouldn’t last long either. Soon, Rick would probably set Iran’s mood organ on 594: pleased acknowledgement of husband’s superior wisdom in all matters. “If I had a wife, Anton thought, I’d never mess with her Penfield.” He’d fall in love with a woman who could dial her own settings. Suppressing her critical sense didn’t feel right. But wasn’t that a consequence of the mood organ anyway?
At his publisher’s, he read his poem out loud. It felt familiar, like all those he’d ever written.
- What do you think is the artistic movement of our time? Anton suddenly asked.
- Neo-classicism, the publisher laughed. Some nostalgia for the past. Since books have disappeared, we’ve been searching a way to revive the old arts. Read that poem again.
- “A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.”

mmhh… If I don’t get more answers, I’m gonna have to delete this and repost it at a better time.
Ah thanks Lonnie, that’s something I can work with. I’ll have to track down the misspellings and punctuation mistakes. I also agree about the harsh rhythm, I was telling myself that when I re-read this piece today. It doesn’t flow as well as it could. But I do want to ask about the sentence fragments. I constantly fight my grammar check with those. I know how to write a full sentence. If I don’t, it’s because I don’t want to. I know I can abuse them sometimes. But isn’t it ever acceptable to use sentence fragments?
I think I’m going to make a list of questions like that sometimes because that’s not my only issue.

It is funny you should say that about the wolves. Mah ha ha! Let’s see…
Although the 666 thing as been made into a cliché since the late 70′s horror flicks, it is actually a number the predates revelations and to these Babylonians it was not a number related to evil. Also, scientists have been translating many biblical texts that use another mathematical phenomenon, the number 616 in its place. Did you know that?
But anyway, now on to your critique… Not including the poem at the end, out of your; about 56 sentences 14 of them start with the word ‘he’ perhaps giving him a name to alternate with could help this. It is not so bad, except for at the beginning.
There are six sentence fragments, three misspellings, four sets of quotes missing, and several punctuation mistakes. There are at least four contractions, but the style seems to support them. Then lastly, the writing flow is just a bit harsh.
So, besides these few little things, it is interesting and intriguing. I like the colorful use of the poem at the end and the originality and fresh feel of the piece. If it were the start of a book I feel like I would be inclined to read on.

Robert asks…
Am I spoiled? Cause I don’t think I am that spoiled. I’m 18 years old?
My parents have two houses but the second one we built is not super super fancy and is not a million dollar home. The reason for two houses is my dad work place was almost 3 hours from our house, I am homeschooled, and when my brother wanted to go to public school we didn’t want to go to our local school cause everyone is rich and are bad influences. Our houses , the first one. Its a 3 bedroom 3.5 bath with garage and its on the golf course, and we don’t play golf. The other house took 3 remodeling to become what it is now. 4 bedroom with 3 bath and my dads home theater which is his hobby. My dad is the only one who brings in the money.
Over the years I have bough
4 refurbished ipods
-nano ( needed more space.)
32 video ipod FIrst Ipod needed more space

Canon 6 megapix digital camera under $200 and I still have it
Canon camera e1 on sale for $100 normally $250 it broke and got the lense error
I bought a electric piano $550 so I can practice when my dad is napping or when my parents are watching movies- I spend well over a year, considering buying one, and researched the best one for the price I wanted
I bought a ice cream maker, and its really highly rated and I got it for $40 dollars on sale
I bough a head lamp for 20 dollars and normally 46 dollar and 7 dollars shipping
$32 dollars worth of art supplies that are on sale at 40% off
$70 dollars worth of oil paints
$60 dollars worth of beads and craft stuff
bought tea on sale from amazon 32 dollars had 18 boxes of tea at .08 cent per tea bag
My parents bought me for birthdays and Christmas

and maybe I’m getting a macbook pro for college if I feel I need one, which I don’t right now.
and a netbook lenovo idea pad s10-3 $280 on sale for a trip across the seas for my online classes
Ipod speakers
faber castell color pencils wooden box set 100 pencils I have barely used, I want more experience

Easel that is portable
3.2 freezer fridge for college $240 edge star energy star
mountain bike $500 but its in super good condition and I am saving it for college to use
A car for around $20,000- people are going to mad knowing I was bough a car but let me point out some things, My mom is super scared about safety, and wanted me to have big car against the semi trucks and stuff. She wouldn’t allow me to have small car and she has a prius and she considers it not substantial for long driving trips. She wants a tank, it had to be safe and it had to be a good brand car, Toyota, Subaru , or maybe Hyhundia .
We got a highlander 07 at 41,000 miles.
Let me also point out that when we started out looking I know this wasn’t my dream car, I knew this car has to get me though college and after college it needs to be able to get 200,000 miles
it had to less than 15,000mile per year. My brother was given a car and if he was giving this option he wanted the nicest sleekest design.
Things I have done for others-
donated 50 dollars to Hattie earth quakes
and 25 dollars to tornadoes disasters
and 25 to japan
$20 in chickens
share in a water buffalo, goat, cow- this is to heffier international where then send and train people to use an animal to help improve their lives.
So I might add some more details but I just need to know. I know it sounds like i am spoiled but I don’t act like it. A girls bragged about her house being bigger then our smaller house ,and i just let it go, I don’t like making waves either. So Yes Spoiled No? Slightly?

If you are able to have nice things, go you. It seems like you do donate some to charity. All I can say is that I hope it was your own money and not your parents. Spoiled is a lot about attitude. If you’re acting like a brat that thinks they are above others because of their financial status and never does anything to help someone else, then that person is spoiled. If your parents have taught you the value of a dollar, even while being able to afford nice things, then kudos to them and to you for having a good attitude.
