Nancy asks…
for anyone who own a digital piano or a keyboard…?
i really want a digital piano and i know they’re priced from as low as 500 bucks in the states, but i live in europe and they’re ridiculously expensive here so my mom refuses to buy me one, and i can’t really drag it from another continent so i’m stuck.
i do still want a full digital piano, with the 88 keys and all, but since that seems impossible here are my questions:
- is a 76 key keyboard really limiting in terms of the amount of songs i’ll be able to play?
- are you happy with your keyboard if it’s not a full 88 key one?
- do keyboards (not full digi pianos) also come with weighted keys?
thanks so much for you time.

ohh and i forgot, what model can you recommend?
admin answers:
If you can, i would say go for the full 88. It isn’t usually a problem, but my 76 can get annoying, it can be limiting on many songs. I think that keyboards do come with weighted keys actually. I think i’ve seen some in my local music store and they felt weighted but i’m not positive. Sorry i’m not too much help.

Very Good Digital Piano,Maximum $500?
I need a Full 88 key Digital piano, With 3 pedals. And the keys should be weighted. I want the most realistic it can get to an acoustic. I can’t get acoustic because dont have as much space and i would like to use Head phones to not disturb people around me.Midi interface would be nice.
But im searching these kinds of Digital pianos

I DO NOT want these types of pianos that are open in the middle cause some of them dont have pedals and if they do all the wires just makes it look BAD.

I dont have much time but i couldent let myself not answer this question
for that budget you cant get much but for another £50 you could get a DGX630 by yamaha, it has 88 graded standard keys and comes with a pedal unit ( you can also put it on an X stand!) and has head phones and midi
the new model has come out but this model will be cheaper as people will be trying to get rid (at least that will be the case in europe)

Sharon asks…
What should I look for when buying a digital piano?
I would someday like to get a nice acoustic piano, but for right now I live in a small apartment and would like just a cheap digital. The only things that’re really important to me is that the keys are weighted and that it’s a full size keyboard. Is it ok if I just go with the cheapest I can find then? I’m hoping to spend beween $500-900.

It’s best if you can go to a music store and play different digital pianos to hear the sound quality and feel the weight of the keys. Some are definitely better than others. But if you are going to order a digital keyboard based on recommendations, check this article out. On the last page it has recommended digital pianos under $1,000.

Mandy asks…
What’s the best digital piano?
Heya, I’m looking for the best digital piano that you truly think you know. I’ll give a basic description of which kind of digital piano i am looking for.
Size – Does not matter (nor weight)
Keys – Must be 88 keys, and truly feels like what a grand piano keys feel like (this is very important to me as well) And yes, have a really great touch sensitivity so that when i hit the keys hard, it’ll make the note louder, and when i hit that same key, but much softer, that note will be softer. Basically, i want it to mimic exactly how a grand piano feels like and SOUNDS when you hit a key, including the note that’s dragged out for a couple of seconds when you hit a key hard on an actual piano without having to press one of the pedals.
Speakers – Must have speakers, and GREAT sounding speakers, not some cheap crappy speakers.
Headphone capability – Has to have at least ONE headphone jack plug in. Honestly, i do not care if its in the front of back of the digital piano.
Pedals – Either it has 3 pedals that comes with the digital piano when you buy it, or it has the capability to have a 3 pedal attached to it.
Realistic Piano Sounds – THIS, is by far my top priority over all the others. I want a digital piano to sound as realistic as possible to whichever piano it is ‘mimicking’. I ONLY care about how realistic is sounds to every type of piano it mimics. I dont care how many other instruments the digital piano is able to play, i only care about how many types of pianos it’s able to mimic and mimics it perfectly (including organ types as well). I want a digital piano that is able to play practically all the types of pianos out there, and perfectly as well, or at least, MOST of the pianos out there. Again, i do NOT care how many other types of instruments its able to mimic, i only care about pianos.
Price – I do not care how little or how much it costs
My Place – I live in an apartment, so keep that in mind whether it’ll really affect the sound of it being played or not on its speakers.
For the rest of the specs of the digital piano, i dont really care. Yeah im pretty picky, but hell. If im going to spend a thousand or more dollars on a digital piano, i want it to meet my every requirement and dont want to be like “..crap” after buying it cuz it actually sounds crappy, or it doesnt feel real when i hit the keys, etc. I want to be happy with my purchase and never be disappointed with anything about it after i buy it.
Many replies to this question is very helpful. Ill personally research every one you guys truly believe is the one that’ll meet my desire. Whichever answer i pick as the best is the digital piano i plan on buying. Thank you very much.

You cannot go wrong with Yamaha Clavinova series.

Chris asks…
Would a 61 or 76 key digital piano/keyboard work for a beginner?
So I am wishing to learn the piano. I want to get something to learn on now and then upgrade with my tax return next year to a nice yamaha aries digital piano which run in the grand and up area. So for now I am wanting to get as cheap and decent as possible to learn on to pass the time till I upgrade to the nicer one later. So would a 61 or 76 key do me well for 8 months till i get the money for the nicer digital piano. I am interested in doing piano work only and am interested in getting a cheap keyboard with full size weighted and touch sensitive keys to pass the time. Cheaper the better for now.

The more the merrier. But neither one is going to give you a proper piano action. (well, very few in either of those sizes)
I think we could count the number of 61 and 73/76 key instruments with weighted actions on less than half the fingers of one hand.
… Korg SV-1 73, Kurzweil SP2. (any others???)
